THE BORDER IS HERE: LATINX IN ACTION

Donation protected

As Massachusetts struggles to accommodate the growing number of migrants coming here, many are finding themselves on Cape Cod. One of the organizations serving immigrants that is responding with food, clothing and essentials is Latinx in Action, an immigrant-led services organization based in Hyannis.

Since its founding in 2018, Latinx in Action has graduated over 380 students from its English as a Second Language classes, distributed direct assistance and food cards to over 180 families, and currently serves 30 families with a monthly food distribution program, among other services.

However, there’s an even longer list of people waiting for services, a list that grows larger every day.

Under its Emergency Shelter Program, the state plans to send more newly arriving families to the Cape along with homeless families who reside in Massachusetts now.

Latinx in Action is on-the-ground and more than willing to expand to meet the needs of migrants, but first the organization must raise $60,000 to be fully prepared.

Latinx in Action has a great new cottage in Hyannis for its programs, but needs funds to hire more staff to be open more hours to serve more clients.

Latinx in Action is ready to offer young mothers the freedom to work and become self-sufficient by providing child care, but first it needs funds to amend its insurance policy and hire child care workers. Its community garden and community kitchen require more equipment in order to serve more participants and Latinx in Action needs more ESOL materials and more art supplies for its Healing through Art program, which is critical to addressing the trauma that impelled so many to travel so far for a safe new start.

Art for the Border is a collective of artists and activists from the outer Cape. We’re launching this campaign for Latinx in Action to do our part to welcome our neighbors. Latinx in Action is ready to rise to today's challenges. Your donation will go a long way in helping this organization do all that it can to serve those who find themselves on Cape Cod after an arduous and dangerous journey to safety.

Art for the Border is hosting a Latin Dance Party to benefit Latinx in Action in Provincetown on Sunday, October 15th from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Provincetown Brewing Company, 141 Bradford Street in Provincetown.

Those who attend the event and have donated $50 or more to this campaign or who donate on October 15th in person, will be able to choose a thank-you gift of one piece of original art as long as supplies last. If you are out-of-town, please donate $50 or more and we will send you a print by one of our participating artists, as long as supplies last.
