The Blacon Community Store Fundraiser!
Donation protected
We are a community store based in an area of high deprivation. We aim to improve the health and general wellbeing of the residents by providing affordable food and household items, and delivering services to tackle social issues.
Poverty and poor health are strongly linked. The life expectancy for the residents of Blacon is far below the national average. The store has links with a local GP practice, who report that many patients attend with non-health related matters, or health problems that could have easily been avoided through simple lifestyle changes or interventions.
Members will pay a weekly membership fee of approximately £4, in exchange for a minimum of £20 worth of shopping. The store will also act as an information hub. As members collect their food, information will be shared on relevant services taking place in Blacon, with a different subject focus each week.
Based next to Western Avenue Medical Centre in Blacon, the food store was set up in August 2019 for 3 main reasons.
The Food Store Aims
- Reduce Food Waste
- Make affordable food accessible to local residents
- Provide a Social Prescribing hub to make information about local services, support and resources easily accessible to the local community
There are currently 100 registered members but with an ever growing waiting list, additional funding is needed to ensure the food store can increase capacity and provide food for more local residents.

How Can I Help?
The group are currently looking for monetary donations to enable them to support more local people to access affordable food and Social Prescribing support during this difficult time.
If you are able to donate, even as little as £5 will make a huge difference.
Thank you.
