Help keep The Black Project alive and growing

Hi, I am Brianna, the Founder of The Black Project. TBP is a platform that celebrates and amplifies the voices of underserved and underheard communities, with a particular focus on the Black diaspora.
Through the celebration of life, art, culture and knowledge, we aim to be a place of trust, safety and community.
In the four years since launching we have run a food parcels scheme to support struggling families across the UK, we have worked with social care providers to support vulnerable young people, we have offered work experience to young people to whom the creative and journalistic world is often inaccessible to, we have brought you new films, TV, and Theatre reviews, and interviews with talented creatives from
the global majority all with the aim of showing young people there is nothing off limits to them.
We have also facilitated a book club focusing on diverse authors, we have shared your news stories and given voice to people who have been shouting for years and gone unheard, and we have provided resources to help facilitate conversations and education.
And I have never earned a penny for it, however it’s now becoming infeasible for TBP to continue without funding, so I’m asking for support.
TBP is not a charity - to become one I would have to sacrifice our political content, which would be to sacrifice what I am told often is an aspect the audience loves most. But that does mean many funding avenues are not open to us.
If you can donate, here is what the money will go on:
- Subsidising the currently personal cost of running the business.
- The ability to launch new features such as a monthly cook club where we teach you how to cook national dishes and treasured dishes from around the world, and a Presents… series introducing new and upcoming musicians to our audience.
- A work experience programme that would enable us to offer paid work experience opportunities for young people of colour, especially from deprived backgrounds. Including opportunities to write news stories, write theatre, TV or Film reviews, interview inspiring people, and content creation.
- Relaunch the Book Club bigger and better, to be able to welcome people in who can’t afford books, providing them with copies and tackling the astounding statistic that 400,000 children in the UK live in a home without even one book.
- Create resource packs to be used in education, to support ongoing conversations around race, gender, disability, identity and belonging.
- And many more exciting projects in the pipeline!
In essence, the funds will not simply allow the platform to continue to support the community, but it will enable us to grow, develop and enhance the ways in which we are able to do that. And it will mean we won’t have to compromise on the content we deliver you - open, honest, trustworthy content, that keeps you in the know about what’s happening in the country.
I know times are tough. But if you can spare anything, that’s so much appreciated. Thank you for all your support with The Black Project, and I hope you’ll continue on this journey with us!
