The BirdHouse Film Summer Camp "SOAR"

Hi, My name is James but everyone calls me Byrd. I was born and raised in East Baltimore City and I want to give back to my community by making a difference in the lives of youth from my city. I was once a kid who didn't have any direction until I picked up a camera. This began my passion for production and capturing my vision through a lens. The BirdHouse film summer program "SOAR" will work with 10-15 kids (ages 12-16) putting a camera in their hands and giving them space to tell their stories. We will teach them how to write, direct and edit a film. We aim to use storytelling as a resource and vehicle to steer them away from violence. Helping them realize a future that will lead them to "SOAR" to heights they could never imagine.

"SOAR" will be a four-week camp. We will provide lunch and transportation.

Donations of $1,000 or more will receive a Producer Credit

The money we raise will go toward every aspect of setting up the camp, the cost of camp location - 5,000 square ft production soundstage, transportation to and from camp, food, camera equipment, paying film industry staff, quality of production value and marketing. The camp will film a Stop The Violence short film. Part of the money raised will be for production.

We aim to teach our future filmmakers the power of picking up a camera and putting down the guns.

This is a good cause that will unlock major keys for Baltimore City.
