The Big Food Rescue

The Big Food Rescue is a non profit organization with the sole goal of feeding the hungry in and around New Haven County.
The idea was born about three weeks ago when I was sitting home reading article after article on the news about local food banks drying up. Children who normally eat breakfast and lunch at school, were now sitting home with no food. The elderly and disabled were unable to leave their house to go grocery shopping due to being high risk during the Covid-19 pandemic. Tens of thousands of layoffs were occurring each day and parents were unable to provide a hot meal for their families. I couldn't sit back and just read anymore, I had to do something. So that evening I ventured out to the grocery store, bought ten pounds of pasta, jars of sauce, meatballs, came home and started cooking. I put up a post on Facebook letting the public know I had free food, cooked and ready to go if they were in need. I had no idea if I'd even get a single response. Turns out, the demand was overwhelming. In the three short weeks "The Big Food Rescue" has been operating, I've already hand delivered hundreds and hundreds of meals in and around New Haven County. Every day is a different menu and each meal is accompanied by an assortment of snacks as well as milk and juice.
Currently, I am layed off (like the majority of the state right now) so any donations are a huge help! All donations are used to purchase food and food containers.
