The Big Climb-27 August 2022

Anyone who knows me knows about Ghana!

Just over ten years ago, at the age of 20, I got on a plane and moved my life to Ghana-for seven months! What in the name of God was I thinking?

It was the most eye-opening, raw, beautiful and challenging experience of my life. Ghana and its people changed my entire perception of life and how I viewed the world. I often think of my time there as a crossroads, like a pivotal moment in my life.

I lived in a village called Abee, about 20 minutes outside Cape Coast in southern Ghana. I volunteered in a local primary school. We lived in the village, ate with the neighbors, went to church with the locals,  learned the local language, and the people there very quickly became like family.

This year, in September, I am going to go back, and my brother Ryan is coming with me.  Friends of Ahotokurom have worked tirelessly over the years and established an orphanage, a special needs school, community centers, a center for leprosy sufferers, and scholarship programs to put children through education. Unfortunately, COVID-19 had a devastating effect on Abee and the surrounding villages, with many deaths and many unable to work and provide for their families. This year we are raising money for rehabilitation programs for prisoners, refurbishments and painting, gardening, building maintenance, plumbing/electrical, medical supplies, office chairs, medication, staff training, a washing machine for the orphanage, bulbs, toys for the children, wheelbarrows and an office phone.

As part of this fundraiser, Ryan and I have decided to climb the three highest mountains in Ireland in 24 hours. Again, what am I thinking? These are Carrantouhill, Mount Brandon and Cnoc na Peiste-all in county Kerry, known as the Kingdom! The BIG CLIMB will be on the 27 August 2022.

It would be so appreciated if you can spare the price of a cup of coffee (and it doesn't even have to be a Dublin priced coffee!). I will post and show exactly where the money goes based on the list of projects above.
