We are leaving this GoFundMe open for those who want to support our future projects and activities, like the Meridian Jacobs farm we are visiting on March 21st, or the spinning wheel we are designing and building!

A bit of background:

The BHS Weaving Club is a co-ed group of dedicated high school students who are passionate about learning every aspect of weaving. The mission of our club is to teach every member how to weave and work with various types of looms and learn various techniques. We make it a goal to inform club members about weaving history and weaving practices in different cultures with videos and guest speakers.

We are serious about weaving, and alongside our incredible trip to Guatemala, we have done so much this year to learn everything we can about weaving. The Sheep to Shawl Lambtown competition in Dixon, CA is a well-known competition among weavers in California. No Berkeley High team had ever competed, and in fact we were the only high school team at the competition. We put a lot of work into acquiring and cleaning sheep fleece, practicing spinning, and building a team of eight practiced club members.

With help from the generous and welcoming weaving community we were able to find all the materials we needed for the competition. In the end our shawl turned out so much better than we ever could have expected.
