Hi everyone,
We are nine university students studying paramedicine alongside our two lecturers. Recently, we had the incredible opportunity to travel to the outskirts of Kathmandu, Nepal, to collaborate with local healthcare professionals. During our time there, we established medical health check clinics in primary schools and community hubs, providing much-needed care to children and families with limited access to healthcare. While our work brought hope and relief, it revealed many communities' harsh daily realities.
One of the most confronting experiences was in the dental clinics, where we saw children—some as young as five—endure multiple tooth extractions due to severe decay. Without access to toothbrushes, toothpaste, or even the knowledge of basic dental care, cavities progress to the point where extractions become the only option. The fear and pain witnessed on their faces was heartbreaking, knowing that such suffering could be prevented with something as simple as improved oral health hygiene.
Equally distressing is the stigma surrounding menstrual health. In many communities, menstruation is still viewed as impure, forcing young girls into isolation, restricting their daily activities, and often leading to prolonged absences from school. In remote areas, particularly in western Nepal, harmful practices like Chhaupadi continue, where menstruating women and girls are banished to unsafe, unsanitary shelters. These conditions not only expose them to extreme weather and poor hygiene but also put them at risk of infections, snake bites, and even assault. Without access to menstrual hygiene products and proper education, many girls resort to unsafe alternatives, further jeopardising their health. As a result, countless young girls fall behind in their education or drop out entirely, reinforcing cycles of inequality and lost opportunities.
These challenges are not inevitable; they stem from a lack of access to essential resources and education—issues we can address. With the proper support, we can equip children with the tools for better health, empower young girls to reclaim their dignity, and help build a future where no one suffers from preventable conditions. Every small act of generosity creates a lasting impact; we can change lives together.
To ensure complete transparency, 100% of the funds raised will go directly to our trusted Nepalese counterparts—local healthcare professionals and educators with whom we worked in Nepal. They will purchase, assemble, and distribute dental and menstrual kits to the schools and communities that need them the most. By collaborating directly with local practitioners, we guarantee that these resources reach the right hands, support the local economy, and provide culturally appropriate education. We are committed to keeping donors informed every step of the way, sharing photos and updates as these essential supplies are delivered.
How Your Support Will Help
This fundraiser is a collective effort from everyone who participated in this program. Every dollar raised will go directly toward providing the following:
Toothbrushes and Toothpaste—A high-quality set costs approximately 500 Nepalese Rupees ($6 Aus Dollars) per child. It gives children the tools to maintain good oral hygiene and prevent painful extractions in the future.
Menstrual Products - A box of quality sanitary pads costs 500 Nepalese Rupees ($6 Aus Dollars) per girl. These pads ensure girls can manage their periods with dignity and confidence, helping them stay in school and avoid unsafe conditions.
With ($12 Aus Dollars), you can provide a dental care kit and a pack of menstrual products for one child or young girl.
Our Hope for the Future
From the very start of this GoFundMe, we are creating awareness, which is the first step in providing long-term support for these beautiful communities. Beyond this fundraiser, we want to continue working alongside our Nepalese friends and local healthcare practitioners to assemble dental and menstrual care kits for schools. We hope this initiative grows—not just into a one-time donation but an ongoing effort to educate, raise awareness, and create sustainable change. By building on what we have started, we aim to extend this project into future programs that provide long-term support, education, and empowerment for these communities.
We were deeply moved by the resilience and kindness of the people we met and want to give back meaningfully. Whether through donations or simply by sharing this fundraiser for awareness, your support will make a tangible difference in these communities.
Thank you for being a part of this journey with us!
With gratitude
