The Barnacle's First Annual Fundraiser

For those not familiar, The Barnacle is Denman Island's newest newsletter. We are a free, volunteer run, not for profit, community publication, that aims to produce a bi-monthly newsletter that reflects the vibrant community and natural life of Denman Island BC.

We cover recent local events. And we root out stories that fall under the radar. We look to the past and to the future of our island. We focus heavily on the natural environment of this beautiful place, with features on local wildlife and environment. There are community announcements, classifieds, jokes and lots of photos.

As an entirely volunteer run organization, our operating costs are low. But unfortunately, low is getting more expensive every day.

We run content and community announcements in the paper, free of charge, in order to reduce barriers to participation. We do collect advertising revenue from small local businesses and from service announcements from local government. While this income is vital to the organization, it is not enough to cover all of our expenses.

This round of fundraising is meant to address annual operating costs. Your money will be going toward paper, ink, rent, utilities, projected maintenance costs for our printer and delivery costs.

While The Barnacle will always be distributed to every household on the island for free - twenty four times a year, our hope is that local community members who are able, can consider a donation as a sort of subscription, to ensure that The Barnacle can keep on keeping it weird and wonderful for the coming year.
