On 2/14/2026 my parents Lucy and John Badgley had a electrical fire and their house burnt (not completely downto the ground but there is a lot of damage) and they are now homeless staying with me in our little one bedroom apartment. The first was from 220 wires that kept burning in two the past few months so my dad tried to fix it by rewiring it direct so they would quit losing electricity as my mother just got out ICU in Effingham Illinois and couldn't go without her 5 liters of oxygen at all times (remind you he has had 2 strokes in a years time last one being in November 2025) My parents are very poor (But would still try and help anyone they could) so they had a very old house as my grandfather father built it himself and after he passed my parents moved in and had lived there 32 years raised me there and my 3 small kids were growing up there. we shared so many memories in that house but the house wasn't up to code as it was very old and all the wiring and stuff was done by my grandfather. so they could not get home insurance. They are such gentle kind and sweet people with hearts of gold and would do anything for anyone! They are so devastated and don't know what to do. they lost so much February 14th and it's been very emotional for all of us. My sister and I are trying our best to help them with personal things but we are struggling our selves as my husband is the only one with income and he only makes $15 hour and we have 3 small children and a lot of bills ourselves, plus our son was just diagnosed with a critical heart condition and has to have open heart surgery he also got diagnosed with epilepsy both were diagnosed in January after he had a mini stroke followed by several seizures and a lot more stuff on January 17th he spent several days in st. Louis picu so we go back and forth to St louis every 4 weeks. financially we are just drained and can not help them. My parents are in their late 60s and have been through so much recently they don't deserve going through this my mother just got out of ICU and my dad has very bad heart problems and just had a stroke for the second time (in 2 years) in November 2025 both of them are having bad health problems and now going through this on top of everything sadly they we already going through so much. The fire people are investigating so we are not allowed there for me to take photos yet but I definitely will as soon as they allow us! even though we tried to tell them we do believe it was from the 220 wires but they still have to investigate is what we were told. we are not asking for a bunch of money for a nice fancy house nor anything like that we are only asking for help with food and enough to get them a decently cheap livable camper or traildr or anything they can live in on their property because they done own it. OR even if someone has something livable that they no longer need or use that they want to get rid of! my parents HATE that my sister and I are asking for help for them as they already feel like burdens we are not trying to scam anyone nor do we enjoy begging for help period. But at this point I don't know what else to do besides ask for everyone's help. It's my parents and I can't just sit back and watch them suffer and do nothing it breaks my heart to see them go through this and it all happened in a matter of minutes that house meant so much more to my family than anyone will understand honestly. if you have any questions please feel free to message me anytime!
