The Anju Project

When my mom was a child, a 10 year old girl named Anju was brought to my grandpa's house to work to help support her family.  Unlike other house help, she was treated like family, and soon became a part of ours.  Most children go back home to get married, but Anju felt so comfortable with our family that she never went back.  After 40 years of her love and care, my grandpa passed away and Anju had to go back to her village to live with her mom and sister.  She is now faced with living in a shack with no running water or electricity.

As a way to thank her for all her hard work, devotion, and nurture, I have decided to take on a project of building her a house with proper plumbing and electricity. I have already raised $10,000 of my $15,500 goal needed for building costs and labor.

Conversations with Anju have helped me draw parallels between our lives and made me aware of my privilege growing up in South Pasadena.   By providing proper shelter for Anju, I will not only be helping her, but I will also be providing a place for other little girls in the village that Anju will take in and help educate.  This way they can have a better life.  I feel like this is the most appropriate way I can give back and show gratitude for my privilege.

Please consider donating to this cause for someone incredibly important to my family.

Thank you!
