This fundraiser is really the story of a family. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, Mike and Jess Anderson, along with their 5 daughters are now in significant hardship. For years Mike and Jess have poured their heart and soul into creating and operating the beautifully inspired Salvage Salon in North Park, San Diego. The atmosphere of their salon is a reflection of the truly generous people they are. They "strive to be genuine and grateful people who believe in serving the people of our community well." And that's exactly what they have been doing for the past 6 years at Salvage Salon.
The current COVID crisis has critically impacted their business and placed the Anderson family in jeopardy. After just completing a large expansion on the salon, finances were tight, but they were poised to do well with the added capacity. That’s when COVID-19 hit. Though they have tried repeatedly, they have not received or qualified for any of the funding meant to help small businesses. Due to the total shutdown, Mike and Jess have not been able to keep their business afloat or make their rents. They have also chosen not to charge their stylists the monthly booth rent knowing that they too are in financial duress. This leaves Mike and Jess with the entire rent amount each month. While other businesses may soon be able to open at least partially, this is not the case for the salon industry with the proposed opening still months away. By the time they are able to open to any significant capacity, the mountain of rent debt is likely to be too much to overcome. Since the shutdown began, they are already behind $36,900.
To make challenging times even more complicated, the Anderson family are being mandated to move from their home of 7 years due to the unforeseen passing of their friend and landlord. This was completely unexpected. While they are able to stay for the time being due to the virus, they will have to face the task of finding and moving to a new home for a family of seven all while carrying this huge financial burden. This move is going to prove especially difficult as Mike has been dealing with the onset of some serious health issues that bring him to the point of exhaustion after even the slightest physical exertion. He needs to continue treatment, but due to the loss of all income, Mike has had to choose between seeing the neurologist and providing basic necessities for his family. The Andersons need our prayers, and our help. Mike and Jess understand their story isn't completely unique during this time, but for us, the Anderson family are our friends. . . and we know they are friends to a great many. The goal amount of this fundraiser is meant to cover their combined rents and business costs (April - August), and a very modest income to help meet the family's needs. And if we are able to surpass our goal amount, Mike and Jess will be looking for ways they can pass on the blessing and help the numerous stylists that call Salvage Salon home. By helping the Andersons we can potentially help a whole community in need.
