The Amma Project - Toy Drive
The Amma Project's first undertaking!
Our names are Badushi and Gowry; we are a couple in Swansea looking to help others through this project. The word "Amma" means mother in our language, Tamil. We have named this project after both of our amazing mothers who have sacrificed so much selflessly to help us and others.
This year, we are working with Swansea Asylum Seekers Support (SASS) to provide children who are new-comers to the UK with Christmas gifts, including toys, books, colouring sets and various essentials like nappies, blankets and shoes.
There are over 300 children supported by SASS currently. We know times are tough for everyone; any amount you can donate will help these children - every penny counts!
Our parents fled Sri Lanka due to the Civil war and settled in the UK. During that period, we were too young to comprehend the terrors we fled from. At such a young age, we did not clearly understand the struggles of our parents to come to new lands without any possession or knowing the language. They fled for the sake of our safety and took on the responsibilities of building themselves up and making the hard decisions so that we could lead better lives. Thanks to the many sacrifices made by our parents, we are now in a privileged position to help other families in similar situations. We want to help the brave mums, dads, children, and persons who have escaped and give a helping hand for them to also succeed.
We are so grateful for your help,
Thank you,
Gowry and Badushi :)
