Hello All. On August fifth myself (Connor), my sister (Emily) and my parents (Cheryl and Dave) were in Forest City, Iowa for a family reunion the following day. To give some context to what Forest City is like, its a small farm town about three hours from the nearest major city, with a population of approximately 4000 people, and surrounded by cornfields. That night the four of us went out to eat at Shooterz Pub. About ten minutes after we sat down at roughly 5:30 PM my mother collapsed to the floor after going into cardiac arrest. Several people, including myself, rushed to her to assess what was going on and found that she had no pulse and was not breathing. Immediately we started performing CPR and my sister Emily with her quick thinking dialed 911. We were so lucky that the Paramedic Station was only a half mile down the road and the EMT's got there in FOUR MINUTES!
The paramedics jumped right in taking over CPR. They hooked mom up to an AED and a CPR machine and went to work. After doing extensive CPR, epinephrine shots, and four shocks from the AED they were able to bring mom back after an excruciating 18 minutes. I can not describe to you how emotional, beautiful, relieving, and lucky we felt after seeing my mom's eyes open. I know it is their job but I could not have been more impressed by the way they took over the situation and got straight to work and refused to give up. Once they got Cheryl resuscitated, the EMT's rushed her to the nearest hospital in Mason City.
After spending three weeks in two different hospitals and several surgeries, I am so thankful to say Cheryl is on her way to a full recovery thanks to the amazing EMT's that saved her life. My dad and I were able to visit the Paramedic Station and thank some of the involved EMT's for all they did. But we were even more thankful when they showed up to visit mom in the hospital a few days after the event. It was so nice to see how happy they were to see my mom alive.
I am starting this fundraiser simply just to thank them. They are amazing people who do amazing things every day. Cheryl is the rock of so many circles including my family and is so loved by everyone that knows her, and it is all because of the Forest City EMT's that we are able to to still see her smile and listen to her voice.
Thank you Forest City Ambulance Station!
(This fundraiser is in my name. All funds from this fundraiser will be sent via check to the Forest City Ambulance Station.)
