I am asking for any donations for my brother and sister as they are going through a difficult journey right now with their second son Colin. They are possibly hoping to go to a hospital that can help or that specializes in his conditions. They were overjoyed to learn of this new baby but have been thrown some difficult and scary unknowns as he continues to grow. They have continued to show strength and grace throughout this journey and any help you can provide them would be immensely appreciated by my family.
Kayla’s words about their baby boy:
On July 16th at regular scheduled visit we found out he has an omphalacele. It is an abdominal wall defect in which the bowel, liver and other abdominal organs extend into the abdomen near the base of the umbilical cord. Colin’s stomach, liver and bowel were included.
July 2nd we went back to check on Colin again via ultrasound. His omphalacele was still present. We were told again we could terminate but this is simply not an option for us. We then made the decision to do an amniocentesis to get some more information so we can continue preparing ourselves for Colin’s future.
July 16th was the amniocentesis. The procedure went very well.
July 23rd we received a phone call from our MFM that the amniocentesis came back all normal!
July 28th we had a full body anatomy ultrasound for Colin. Some organs were unable to see because of Colin’s movements and angles. We were told his stomach descended back into his abdomen! A couple Choroid Plexus cysts were noted on his brain but these are sometimes common. We were again given the option to terminate due to his large omphalacele in which we declined again because Colin is here to stay!
August 3rd a fetal echocardiogram was done on Colin’s heart. There we discovered he has 4 heart defects that together are a condition called Tertalogy of Fallot. The doctor there also gave us the option of termination because of the ToF and Omphalacele. We continue to pray and know we became pregnant with our Colin for a reason. ❤️
