Thanksgiving Project for Adelante

Tax deductible

In 2012 the Rotary Club of Santa Fe established the Interact Club of Capital High School. Every year they have done an enormous undertaking donating 150 meals to families in the Adelante Program for Thanksgiving. They became the largest donating entity in the city of Santa Fe. These 150 meals feed over 750 family members. These passionate teenagers donated over $78,000 dollars worth of food over the years.  They raised funds by food drives, bake sales, yard sales, and car washes. Students would help transport thousands of pounds of food including a gallon of milk, potatoes, butter, salad, green beans, a turkey etc. and a group of up to 40 students and community members would help to assemble 150 bags for distribution. Thank you to all that have supported this project so generously over the last 7 years.

However this year is different. Last year the entire club was composed of Seniors.  Typically we spend the last months of the school year recruiting new members for the following year, but this year a pandemic interrupted us.  This school year we have tried to recruit new students, but haven't had success.

So I am turning to the generosity of Santa Fe to help me still feed these 150 families this year. Time is of the essence as Thanksgiving is quickly approaching and we distribute food/funds the Tuesday before. Adelante has grown to depend on our annual Thanksgiving Project and I do not want to let them down nor the families. I have set a low goal of $25 per family, if you would prefer you can also drop off a grocery store gift card for this amount. Depending on what we can raise this week will determine how much food/funds we will be able to donate to each family.

We are looking for financial donations but we will also accept non perishable items and you can message me for contactless drop off.  If you are a restaurant and have bulk items please contact me via email below.

We are also still trying to keep Interact alive. If you know of a teenager in Santa Fe that needs community service hours for college applications, scholarships etc. please share as we have expanded this to any high school student in Santa Fe. We meet once weekly at 4pm on Wednesdays ( subject to change)  via googleclassroom.  The focus of the club is leadership and service above self. We have guest speakers about resume building, career paths, as well as fundraising and community service projects ( all subject to current restrictions) Please email me at [email redacted] for more information.
