My name is Aidan Poland. I live in the Borough of Hopatcong. I am 14 years old and will be a sophomore in September. I attend Sussex County Technical School and major in welding. I’m a proud and active member of Boy Scout Troop 88 Hopatcong. I am currently a Life Scout working on the highest rank of Eagle Scout. While on the Eagle Trail, I have learned so much in a short time. Scouting has helped me choose my trade, learn to set and achieve goals, and how to serve others. I have set the goal for myself to earn my Eagle rank by my 15th birthday, which is just a few short months away. I have been working very hard to earn the required merit badges, continue to be active in my troop and stay involved in my community. My final step is to complete my Eagle Scout Project. This project allows me to plan, organize, and execute a project that will serve my community. I’m excited to announce that I’ll be working with the Borough of Hopatcong. I will be helping to outfit the newly constructed, Jefferson Field Dog Park, with agility equipment and even park benches for their owners!

There are two dog parks that sit next to each other: a large dog park and a small dog park. My project is to build obstacles for the two parks. They will mirror each other in the aspect of the same equipment but differ in sizes to be appropriate for the different size dogs. I am planning to build a teeter totter, a bridge with a tunnel under it, 3 hurdles, and finally a bench for each park. I will organize volunteers to help build the six pieces of equipment and the two benches. Once built, the equipment will be placed on footings and secured in the park.

In conclusion, I’m asking if you would like to contribute to my project and be a part of my trail to Eagle. In total, I estimate the total cost to be between $3,000-$3,500. I have been able to secure some funds and material from the borough. I will be hosting a plastic recycling drive to obtain the two Trex benches needed. Thank you for your time and consideration.
