Hello, my name is Shaunna, and I want to tell you about my incredible sister, Teresa Upson. Teresa is the type of person who puts others ahead of herself and never asks for help. She was the primary caretaker of our Father for years before his death, ignoring her own health and well-being to advocate for him. After he passed away, my sister, Julie and I encouraged Teresa to take the money from Dad's estate to fix up her mobile home, which was starting to show real wear and tear. She hired a contractor to gut the trailer and rebuild it from the shell in. This contractor did a complete demo job, then disappeared from the face of the earth!! He stole every penny Teresa had, using it to bail his father out of jail rather than honoring his agreement with Teresa. Three years later, she has still never received her money back!

All this time, Teresa has lived in an unsafe environment. There is no flooring other than plywood, no drywall, no functional kitchen, no running water, no shower, and only one semi-usable corner where she keeps her bed and her desk (Teresa works from home).

Recently, Teresa suffered a serious heart attack! She had surgery to place two stents in her heart. She is recovering, but it is hard to heal in an unsafe environment. My sister, Julie, and her husband, Chris, have traveled to Dubuque, Iowa to spearhead a construction project to provide Teresa with a safe, comfortable place to recover. They have had assistance from several generous people donating their time and talents. They got the hot water working, repaired the sewer, replaced the toilet, installed a shower, repaired the lighting, and all the fuses work!! But, they have several more projects on the agenda, including repairs to the plumbing and flooring. They might even be able to provide Teresa with a functional kitchen.
