Tera's Kids Need a Ride to Healing

My name is Tera, and I'm the single mom of 4 amazing kids with varying levels of disability and medical fragility. My youngest two children, both currently 2 years old, were born with severe challenges, including Hydrocephalus, Autism Spectrum Disorder, seizure, and other delays. During the diagnosis process, the other parent was unable to cope, and I abruptly became the sole caregiver and primary provider last year when things became unsafe at home. With help from Safenest, Social Services, and a few kind friends/family, we made it safely through the hardest time of our lives last year, and I'm so grateful. We overcame medical obstacles and hospital visits, I got my business license so I can work remotely, and I was awarded sole custody of my disabled toddlers. Unfortunately, during this same time period, my only vehicle became inoperable, and Social Services exposed/encountered alarming legal issues with my landlord, and I am still really struggling to catch/keep up. I ended up taking them to court self represented and getting the eviction overturned, but I obviously don't want to renew my lease here, due to recent events and a huge upcoming rent increase of $98 per month. It's been challenging being the only adult in my children's lives, being caregiver/provider simultaneously, as well as hosting their therapies and attending medical tests/appointments. The process of qualifying for disability has been impossible/taking forever for the kids, and child support, even when garnished, has been minimal and inconsistent. For example, my April 1st deposit from Child Support Enforcement totalled approximately $20, so I really need to move somewhere I can afford more easily on my own. I've been struggling to make ends meet for over a year since my former partner moved out with the bills already months behind, and I am so ready to get out of this predatory trailer park home situation, start rebuilding my credit, and build a good life for my children. So now, I need to 1) Lease or finance a reliable vehicle to take my children to their therapies/treatments, and 2) Move to a safer, more affordable place to live. I've been pursuing leads on both, but could really use some help with upcoming additional expenses, such as rental applications, rental home deposit, transportation, vehicle down payment or leasing deposit, moving truck rental, etc. Uber is absolutely bleeding me dry going to all the appointments, everything is going up in price, and I really need help to get our situation back on track and sustainable. While I've had to accept that I'm on my own in the joys and sorrows of raising these special kids, I really need help setting myself up for success to do so. It is my deepest hope for us to have a safe rental to call home, and reliable transportation, so I can finally catch up, breathe, and not feel like we're always one emergency away from eviction. The kids and I are basically starting from scratch, but we're survivors, and we appreciate every bit of support we receive! Thank you so much for sharing our journey!
