✨ Why we’re Fundraising ✨
In October, I’ll be joining 11 other nursing students from Teesside University to volunteer with Transform Healthcare Cambodia. Together, we’ll be part of something truly special – helping to rebuild and support the Cambodian healthcare system.
Why Cambodia?
Cambodia’s history is one of both heartbreak and resilience. During the 1970s, the Khmer Rouge regime, led by Pol Pot, devastated the country. In what became known as one of the darkest chapters of the 20th century, over 2 million people were killed. Anyone with education or professional skills – teachers, doctors, nurses – were targeted and executed. It’s estimated that only 10 doctors survived this genocide.
The entire healthcare and education system was wiped out. Infrastructure such as transport, power, water, sanitation, and irrigation were destroyed, plunging the country back to what was called “Year Zero.”
Where hope begins again
Despite this painful history, Cambodia is a country full of strength, kindness, and hope. But the healthcare system is still rebuilding, and many communities continue to face huge challenges in accessing basic care and health education.
As nursing students, we want to give something back. We will be:
• Supporting schools with healthcare education
• Volunteering in hospitals and clinics alongside Cambodian staff
• Helping to empower the next generation with knowledge and skills that can save lives
How you can help
This trip is completely voluntary, and we are fundraising to make it possible. Any donation, no matter how small, will go directly towards supporting our work in Cambodia and making a difference to people who need it most.
By supporting us, you’re not just helping us get to Cambodia – you’re helping to contribute to a country’s journey of healing, rebuilding, and hope.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story, and for any support you can give.
