Help Support Tedd Apgar’s Recovery After a Life-Changing Accident
On 11/3/25, just days before his 60th birthday, my uncle, Tedd Apgar was involved in a terrible motorcycle accident on Ridge Road in Hobart, IN.
The accident happened around 12 PM, but his family had no idea that it had happened until hours later. Tedd was found lying face-down on the road, and photos and videos were shared online. That evening, one of his friends recognized him from those posts and notified the family, who rushed to his side.
Tedd was flown to the University of Chicago, placed into a medically induced coma, and underwent emergency brain surgery to insert a monitoring device to track his intracranial pressure.
He sustained multiple brain bleeds, a fractured vertebra in his neck, a broken hand, a fractured rib, lacerations and trauma around his right eye, and extensive bruising. He required a ventilator to help him breathe, a feeding tube, and experienced significant memory issues after the trauma.
Tedd remained at the University of Chicago for 18 days, where his family stayed with him around the clock. Once he was stable enough, he was transferred to the Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana in Indianapolis, where he spent an additional 11 days working through early recovery and evaluation.
On 12/1/25, Tedd was finally discharged home. Although he is no longer in the hospital, the road ahead is long. Due to his traumatic brain injury, he continues to struggle with retrograde and anterograde amnesia (memory loss). He is still wearing a neck brace, his hand remains broken, and he requires constant caretaking. For now, Tedd is living with one of his daughters to ensure he receives 24/7 care and support.
We are incredibly grateful that Tedd survived this accident, but the impact on the family has been overwhelming.
Obviously, Tedd is unable to work. He doesn't have any money coming in but still has to worry about living expenses on top of his healing journey.
How This GoFundMe Will Help
Tedd’s accident has created significant and unexpected financial strain. Donations will help the family cover:

* Adaptive equipment needed for safety and mobility at home
* Daily living expenses while Tedd cannot work and requires supervision
* Time off work taken to provide caregiving
Any amount, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference during this challenging time. If you cannot donate, sharing this GoFundMe is just as appreciated.
