As many of you know, Megan and Andy are expecting twin girls with due dates in April. The journey to even get to that point was long and trying.  Being pregnant with twins is considered more high risk than a normal pregnancy and Megan had some other personal health issues that amplified the situation.

On Wednesday, February 20th, Megan had a light bloody nose that continued throughout the day and all night. When she woke the next morning and she threw up blood, likely from the blood draining into her stomach, Megan & Andy contacted their OB doctor, who decided it was time to be admitted to Labor & Delivery to run some tests.

Thursday, February 21st, Megan was diagnosed with ITP (Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura), which is a disorder that can lead to easy or excessive bruising and bleeding. The bleeding results from unusually low levels of platelets — the cells that help blood clot. A normal platelet count in a healthy individual is between 150,000 and 450,000 per μl (microlitre) of blood (150–450 × 109/L). Ninety-five percent of healthy people will have platelet counts within this range. Megan, had 3000.

Due to the ITP and the low platelets, one of the babies now has a brain bleed. There are few details surrounding the brain bleed and many ultrasounds are needed to monitor any changes.  Megan & Andy will not know exactly what they will be dealing with until the girls are born. Surgery may be necessary for the baby that has the bleed and that surgery would be done out of state.  Let’s pray that won’t be needed.

In the meantime, they are pumping Megan full of meds. Both for her and for babies. At this point, they are trying to get her platelets under control. If delivery is needed, having blood that won’t clot is a huge problem.

So far the babies vitals have been good. Megan’s blood pressure is under control, but they are concerned about severe preeclampsia.

The first nurse Megan had has been a nurse for 34 years and hasn’t seen a case quite like Megan’s.

In situations like this, many people want to help, but don’t always know what they can do. I wanted to set up this Go Fund Me Page to help with some financial burden. If you can’t help financially, please pray for them and pray often. They’ll take all the prayers they can get right now.
