Help Build the Future of Galloway Mountain Rescue
In 2026, Galloway Mountain Rescue Team faces one of its biggest challenges yet — securing a new operational base to ensure we can continue saving lives across southwest Scotland.
The team is currently in negotiations to secure a serviced building plot near Newton Stewart. This new base will provide a vital hub for callouts, training, equipment storage, and coordination — allowing our volunteers to respond faster, work more safely, and remain ready for the increasing demand on mountain rescue services.
Building a new base is essential — and it will require serious fundraising.
The Challenge: Winter Spine Challenger North
To kick off this fundraising effort, Ross McConchie and James Anderson are taking on an extraordinary endurance challenge: the Winter Spine Challenger North.
This brutal 160-mile winter ultramarathon follows the Pennine Way in some of the harshest conditions the UK can offer — battling snow, ice, wind, darkness, and sleep deprivation. It’s widely regarded as one of the toughest endurance races in the world.
Galloway Mountain Rescue Team is made up entirely of volunteers, giving their time, skills, and commitment to help others in their moment of greatest need — 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
By supporting this challenge, you’re not just backing Ross and James — you’re helping to build a permanent home for a team that serves our communities and visitors when it matters most.
Every donation, big or small, brings us one step closer to a new base and a stronger future for mountain rescue in Galloway.
Thank you for your support.
