Teaching in Nairobi, Kenya.

Hi Everyone, My name is David Corry and I am traveling to Nairobi Kenya to volunteer with International Volunteer HQ and teach English and PE in a local primary school for 3 weeks throughout June and July 2023.  Children in Kenya love going to school and highly value the education they receive. However, these children face many challenges such as clean water, starvation, and poverty. Basic needs that we take for granted. A lot of children have to walk 10 km or more twice a day to get to and from school. Unfortunately, once they become teenagers many students are forced to leave school due to early marriages or to support their families. The provision and quality of education also pose major challenges in these areas. School-going children often do not achieve basic education levels in literacy, numeracy, and life skills, which greatly impacts their lives. Traveling to Nairobi will give me the opportunity to bring a unique perspective to the children's education, fostering their love for learning, broadening their minds, and encouraging them to further their education and build better futures. I will help to broaden the children’s knowledge, teach foreign sports such as Gaelic, and educate the children on general fitness, health, and wellbeing. Your support will help me carry out 3 weeks of this incredibly important work, and provide much-needed relief and support to local teachers working with a pupil-to-teacher ratio of approx. 50/75 :1 . Your donations would be much appreciated and will contribute directly to clean and safe drinking water/ food, uniforms, and the costs of essential teaching resources such as stationary and Physical education equipment.  Any donation no matter how small will go an extremely long way!
