Teaching 100 Kids to Swim in Guatemala
Update 7/22/21: We're super proud to announce that we've partnered with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes to make this trip possible! We're around 80% funded for the trip including the GoFundMe funds that you guys have helped raise as well as outside donations. Due to some international travel problems, we've had to push back the trip a few weeks but the official dates for the mission trip are Sept 26-Oct 3, 2021! We're going to have a video made at the end of the trip to share with everyone the impact we made on these kids lives and what the trip environment was like! Thank you again for all your love and support, and we're so grateful for you being a part of our team making this happen!
My name is Audrey Wood. I’m a swim instructor from Reno, NV. I’ve worked with kids my entire life and found my passion teaching swim 4 years ago. I am a Christian who’s been called to serve. A few months ago I was sitting in church, and the preacher spoke words over me and my life. He said “if you’re not doing everything you can to show God's love, you’re not doing enough.” I asked myself if I was doing everything I could and the answer was no. I decided to use my knowledge as a swim teacher and go serve internationally. A group of wonderful volunteers and myself will be headed to Guatemala on August 1st to teach 100 kids to swim in 5 days. To make this happen, we need to put a deposit on the facility, feed the children, cover costs for 15 checked bags full of donations/goggles/caps for the children, and cover additional costs that come with a mission trip. Breakdown as follows:
Pool/Facility Rental: $6,271
Feeding the kids for the Week: $1,750
Transportation/Buses for the week: $1,160
Housing: $1,400
Shipments of essentials and gifts for the kids: $1,100
Total: $11,681
Any additional funds will go towards more gifts and essentials for the kids or be donated to Kids Alive International, which is one of the organizations we're partnering with to teach underprivileged children how to swim. Every little bit helps. I am so grateful to get this opportunity, but I can’t do it alone. Thank you for reading my story and if you feel it in your heart to donate, I will be forever grateful.(Club Finca Columbia, the facility we're going to be using for our mission trip)
