Khun Nangam's Story:
Allow me to introduce you to my wonderful and beloved mother, Khun Nangam.

My mom was born and raised in Cambodia and survived the Pol Pot/Khmer Rouge reign of terror between 1975-79. She went through unimaginable hardships just like so many others in the country during the war and the years of instability that followed. Despite these challenges, she worked tirelessly to create a good life for herself and her family. Throughout my childhood, she always made time for my siblings and me. She is a gentle, nurturing soul—an exceptional cook, a lover of travel, and a woman with a great sense of humor, a caring heart, and an infectious positivity. She loved to cook. her cooking was a constant source of comfort and joy. She is everything a child could hope for in a parent. She takes immense joy in spending time with her four adult children and six grandchildren.

Beyond her role as a mother, my mom is also a devoted believer and passionate community advocate. For over a decade, she has selflessly volunteered her time to the Buddhist Association of Cambodia, while also championing causes such as women's rights, supporting the disabled, aiding orphanages, and fighting against sex trafficking. Her deep sense of compassion and justice has shaped not only our family but also the lives of many in her community. As children, she instilled in us the values of kindness, mercy, and forgiveness. Even now, at the age of 75, she remains driven to help others, always finding ways to make a positive impact in her community.

Unfortunately, my mother’s life has taken an unexpected and painful turn. She has been diagnosed with a slow-growing benign brain tumor, which has now reached a size that is severely affecting her health. The tumor has caused partial paralysis, with the left side of her body barely responsive and her ability to walk becoming increasingly difficult. Worse yet, she is starting to lose her ability to speak. Her condition continues to deteriorate, and without immediate surgery, her quality of life will continue to decline.

The only option for her is surgery to remove the tumor, which has grown to the size of a golf ball. Though the situation is dire, my mother’s spirit remains strong. Her memories are still intact, and she is determined to fight this battle. She wants to live longer—so she can continue loving her family and resume her work as a compassionate humanitarian.
However, this fight is not easy. We are currently facing a financial barrier that is preventing us from securing the necessary surgery for her. This is where we humbly ask for your help. We are seeking donations to cover the cost of her surgery, hospital stay, and the recovery process. Any amount—no matter how small—will bring us one step closer to giving my mother the chance to heal and regain her strength.

My mother is beloved by all who know her, a true embodiment of love, kindness, and resilience. She is a role model not just for me but for my children, who look up to her as an example of how to live with compassion and purpose. We are deeply grateful for your consideration and any support you can offer.
Thank you for taking the time to read my mother’s story, and may you be blessed in return for your kindness.
