A letter from my son:
My name is Taylor Thomas O'Brien.
I was born at West Chester hospital on February 19, 1996. Who knew that, 22 years later, I would be
handcuffed to a hospital bed, after being arrested.
Before I get to that, allow me to discuss a few other things....
Some of you may know me as a childhood friend or still a good friend to this day, or someone who went to Pickering Valley Elementary
School with.
You may have went to crossroads with me, Collegium, Downingtown East or even TCHS. We may have even played on the
same Marsh Creek Eagles team, GO coach Mecum! Or we may have went to Indian Springs day camp with each other, or rode the same
bus.
If none of these apply, the only thing you may associate my name with, are not such great memories or first impressions.
I don't blame you.
The only thing you may know me for is, the gossip around town, much of which, wasn't anything positive, which is no ones fault, but my
own.
The one thing you may know me for is, breaking into a local gun store, then taking the police on a chase through the Malvern
borough, until finally being cornered in someone's backyard and taken into custody.
Knowing that is the only impression and representation I have portrayed to others and have bestowed to my community, deeply disturbs me.
I do not expect forgiveness from anyone.
However, I've learned, I DO NEED TO FORGIVE MYSELF, to begin the process of healing and that has been a complex journey in itself.
I am truly sorry with all of my heart, AND I've been told, you can't keep saying sorry, because it loses it's meaning after awhile and that,
actions speak louder than words.
I agree.
I do struggle with articulating my feelings at times.
That's why this ACTION must be taken for myself!
To show myself, the strides I have made and more importantly, the actions that will show the WORLD that, incarcerated
men, with the disease of addiction, CAN change and create a purposeful difference.
Being a positive role model, is the only way I can help the youth, to prevent them from following the same dark path, I once walked and
help put an end to this vicious cycle.
I am making a commitment to myself and my community, that I will stand by and honor, to show, not only written words but
physical action towards my growth and desire to be a better human being.
The DAY of my release, on July 15th, I Taylor Thomas O'Brien, will be running 20+ mi. and I will cherish and enjoy every second of it, while putting in my blood, sweat and tears, to raise awareness for a local charity, KACIE'S CAUSE.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart, for taking the time to read this and if you're you're feeling called to, please donate.
Sincerely,
Taylor O'Brien
