Anyone who knows me knows how often I love to walk and be outside. For quite some time now, I’ve been planning to walk all the way downtown Toronto from my apartment in Brampton…YUP, you heard that right! At first it was going to be just for fun and to challenge myself a little but I recently had a realization and felt like I needed to do this walk for a cause, and one I hold close to my heart. As all of us know, Black Lives have not mattered and the injustices against us have always been extremely unspeakable. During quarantine, a lot of us have been becoming educated on certain statistics, facts, micro and macro aggressions that Black and Indigenous people have been facing for centuries and sadly a lot of these things have been brought to light because of the gruesome murder of George Floyd. As a queer black person I am always trying to feel safe and find myself to be hyper vigilant when I leave my house because of the dangers out there.

About a year and a bit ago I was referred to an amazing outreach worker named Neervana who works @blackcapto. Black Cap (Black Coalition for AIDS Prevention) is Canadas’s largest Black specific AIDS service organization but they don’t stop there, they have counselling services, youth groups and many more and I’m so lucky to have been introduced to these amazing services. Neervana and the people at @blackcapto have changed my life in the most positive way in just over a year. The work they put in for Black, African and Caribbean LGBTQ+ youth and adults is ground-breaking and so I’m walking for them and I plan on raising $2,500 for them to continue to offer these services. ALL proceeds will be going directly to BLACK CAP. Services you'll be helping by donating are The Aya Project, Black CAP's Refugee Settlement Program, Black CAP's Prevention Program, Black CAP's Kazi Employment Program and many more!
