In Loving Memory of Tatay: Memorial & Salazar Family Support
The Heart of Our Family
My name is Reynald Salazar. I am reaching out to share the story of my Tatay (Dad). Since at least September, my Tatay battled severe abdominal pain; a journey that led to the heartbreaking diagnosis of Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer on December 15, 2025.
Even before this news, my parents were facing a difficult road. In 2025, both my Nanay (Mom) and Tatay had their work hours drastically reduced, leaving them struggling to cover even the most basic necessities. While my siblings and I have done everything possible to bridge the gap for their rent and bills, the added weight of this medical crisis has become more than we can sustain alone.
His Final Days: A Family Reunited
On February 2, 2026, we were able to fulfill Tatay’s greatest wish: to be in the comfort of his own home, surrounded by the people he loves.
Tatay fought so incredibly hard throughout this journey. He held on with immense strength, waiting for our family to be whole again.
Our prayers were answered when my younger brother arrived in Los Angeles from the Philippines on February 6, 2026, at 12:30 am. With all of his children finally gathered by his side, Tatay was able to find rest. On February 8, 2026, around 12:01 am, he passed away peacefully. I was originally scheduled to fly back to Allentown, PA, on the evening of February 8 - to get back into and catch up on my studies in clinical/counseling psychology, but I rescheduled my flight to February 11 to support my Nanay as she began this difficult transition. In accordance with Tatay's personal wishes to be cremated, his remains were cremated on February 13, 2026.

How Your Support Helps
As a medically retired Navy Veteran and a future mental health counselor, I am used to being the "anchor" for others. Now, I am asking for help to anchor my family as we transition from a season of caregiving to a season of mourning.
Your donations will go directly toward:
Funeral & Memorial Services: Covering the costs of the cremation services by Cedar Hill Mortuary and the funeral services at St. Dominic to honor Tatay’s life.
Debt & Loan Repayment: Helping us pay back the loans our family had to take out to cover urgent medical and travel costs over the last few months.
Essential Living Expenses: Ensuring my Nanay has the support she needs for rent, utilities, and groceries.
Medical Bills: Addressing the mounting past medical bills and hospital co-pays from Tatay’s treatments.
A Note of Gratitude
Any contribution, no matter the size, makes a profound difference as we try to get back on our feet. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing our story and keeping our family in your prayers.
Maraming salamat po (Thank you so much) for your kindness, your compassion, and your support during our family’s hardest time.
