My name is Tara and I’m asking for your help as well move forward to rebuild a life free from abuse.

For over 10 years, we lived through unimaginable trauma at the hands of someone I trusted. What started as hope for a stable life turned into a long nightmare of domestic violence, financial control, emotional and verbal abuse, and repeated physical assaults - my children included.

From multiple abusers it lasted from 2014 to 2022, and though I finally found the courage to leave, it didn’t end there. In 2023, one of the abusers broke into my apartment, continued stalking, and made it clear that safety was still out of reach. Another abuser, who I have a restraining order against, has resurfaced and is stalking me as well.

I tried seeking help from domestic violence shelters, but they’re overwhelmed and underfunded. I have bounced between having a place of our own thinking we were safe, to losing everything and homelessness. I sold my car, moved back in with my mom, and now even there, he finds me. Sometimes I leave the home for weeks at a time, just to keep him guessing so he won’t know where I live.

On top of this, We have faced childhood rape, grooming, and another violations I never expected. Including from a therapist who exposed himself to me during a session while trying to get better mentally for my children.

The man who abused us also stole money meant for my children — the life insurance left by their late father. He convinced me he was more “financially capable” of handling it, and I believed him. The money is gone. I now owe the insurance company repayment for the funds he misused.

My children, after everything they’ve seen, are hurting. They’ve spoken about wanting to be adopted by their father’s family. I’m in danger of losing custody — not because I don’t love or fight for them, but because trauma has consumed our home, and I haven't had the stability to protect them the way they deserve.

I’ve applied for jobs in every industry. I’ve worked in food service, hospitality, delivery, caregiving, event planning, and more. I want to work, I want to thrive. But without a car, without stable housing, without an attorney, I’m in survival mode.

I’ve been trying to do everything right. I left. I sought help. I found therapy — and even that was taken from me. I don’t want to survive anymore. I want to live — and I want my children to feel safe, loved, and whole.
