Tanzanian School - Star Day Care Centre
Donation protected
Hi, our names are Immy, Aaron and Libby. We are currently partaking in an around the world volunteering programme and are in our fourth country: Tanzania.
We are volunteering in a school/day care facility and we were all immediately shocked on arrival at the little resources they had (even compared to some of the other volunteer work in schools we had done previously). The classes are generally 25+ students and one teacher, however with very little space. The class share pencils so each time they write in their books half the class are sat waiting for the other half to finish so they can start.
The blackboards are extremely tired and we can barely read the English written on them so we have no idea how the students are managing to learn English from them.
The children start from 2 years old to 6 years old and spend 8am-7pm at the school/daycare - there are no toys to play with in that time, no paper to colour on, no pencils (let alone colouring pencils) to colour in with, some of the children don’t even have books.
We would like to be able to get the school 4 new big whiteboards, some new books and pencils and pens, some toys to play with and have asked the head teacher for a list of things they need that we may have not noticed in the last two days.
Any donations would be greatly appreciated!
Every little bit helps!
