We are four teaching and medical volunteers – Max, Rowan, Nick, and Paulo – currently working at Soweto Primary School in Moshi, northern Tanzania, at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. We are raising money to provide school children with meals and access to a sustainable way of living.
Introduction:
The school serves around 600 students, many of whom come from underprivileged backgrounds. Of these, 109 children do not receive food throughout the entire day. No breakfast, no lunch, yet they are expected to stay focused, attend lessons, and build a future through education.
Our goal:
We want to give these children something so basic, yet so powerful - a warm, nourishing meal at lunchtime. The food we aim to provide includes rice, maize, beans, and clean drinking water. It may not sound like much, but it makes a huge difference. To feed all 109 children for one month, we need €300/£250.
But our vision goes beyond this short-term aid. Together with the school leadership, our volunteer organisation (The Mighty Roar), and a local engineer, we’ve developed a sustainable solution: to grow maize and beans on the school’s 60-by-40-metre plot of land. Unfortunately, the crops simply wither due to lack of water during the dry season.
With €1,000/£850, we can install rain gutters around the school infrastructure (seen in the photo above) and a 5,000-litre water tank to collect rainwater and irrigate the field. This would allow the school to grow its food and become more self-sufficient in the long run. With this project, we can feed children and give them access to sustainable farming. They will learn how to grow and care for plants, gain practical knowledge about farming and utilise their crops for their school meals. We’ve done our homework - we’ve visited local shops to compare prices, planned the installation with the professional and are committed to doing the setup ourselves with the help of the engineer.
We’re on-site every day for the next four weeks and can ensure that every cent goes exactly where it’s needed – into food and the future.
Even the smallest donation helps.
Together, we can make a lasting impact.
Thank you so much for your support.
Warm greetings from Moshi,
Max, Rowan, Nick & Paulo

Update:
Thank you so much for all your contributions! We now have a sufficient amount for our project and have exceeded the goal we aimed to raise. We would like to thank each of you from the bottom of our hearts!
Day 1: We managed to purchase most of the equipment needed to build the water gutters. Thanks to the school deputy principal and the local engineer who accompanied us around town, we were able to get the best value for money for this project.
Day 2: Construction commenced at the primary school (photo uploaded above). We also successfully bought all the ingredients required to provide school meals for all students for the next month. This includes 60kg of beans, 600kg of maize, 10L of cooking oil, sugar, and salt. Thanks to our deputy principal for accompanying us to the market, so we were able to secure the local price!
Day 3: We bought bricks, sand, cement, and all other materials necessary to build the foundation for our 5,000-litre tank. Our constructor was there to double-check all the equipment needed.
Day 4: We have exceeded our fundraising goal (thanks to all of your donations!), so we decided to purchase a second 5,000-litre tank. We also bought 40 trees including mango, banana, avocado, etc which we planted around the field a few days before we left Moshi.
