Tamarack needs a new oven!!

Donation protected
Tamarack is a collectively run social center, bar, restaurant, and free library in downtown Oakland. For the past few years, we have hosted space for people to come together to break bread, find each other, organize, create, hatch plans, dance, and forge a meaningful life in common.

Our oven is broken and it is too old to repair. We need to purchase a new oven, and they usually run at around $1500-$2000 plus taxes, transport, and installation costs. There are a number of incredible (and delicious!) food projects that currently use or have benefitted from our kitchen space, for whom we really want to get this oven!

They include:

Foodz, a mutual aid project that recovers food that would otherwise turn into waste to cook hundreds of phenomenal multi-course meals for our houseless neighbors every Monday. Check them out on instagram @food4oakland

Tanoor, a weekly pop-up on Thursdays focusing on the more homey flavors of the Arabian Peninsula from a 2nd gen queer diaspora perspective. Follow them @tanoorpopup

The Dough Joe, a monthly, mouth-watering donut and pretzel pop-up raising funds for Suigetsukan, our local community dojo. Peep @doughjoe103

East Oakland Burrito Roll, a monthly mutual aid project that operated during the pandemic making, you guessed it, burritos for houseless and food insecure oaklanders. This specific project is no longer active but you can check out what these folks are up to now @bossbayarea

That Hausa Vegan, aka Sital's Kitchen, a chef in the Oakland Bloom incubator program making northern Nigerian classic dishes and vegan cakes and pastries. You can follow them @thathausavegan. They had these kind and generous words to share about the fundraiser: "I’m grateful to have access to Tamarack kitchen. As a chef who also focuses on pastry, the oven at Tamarack would be very helpful to ensure I can make orders in time and in a commercial kitchen which is naturally spacier. I was grateful to have access to Tamarack to prepare for the Lantern Festival this year which turned out very successfully. I’m so grateful to Tamarack; their existence is a blessing for upcoming chefs and community cooking."

If you're able, please contribute and share our efforts so these folks can get a sparkling new and functional oven :)
