This year, I’m turning my birthday into something bigger — a huge charity event in Bristol to raise money for MIND Bristol, Scrub Foundation, and Low Grade Serous Ovarian Cancer Initiative in memory of 3 of my friends - Dylan Shelton, Harry Roberts & Jasmine Rose.
If we sell out the show, we can raise over £5,000 — with every penny of profit going directly to charities as well as what has been made on this gofundme 'Takuya's "Movember" - more on this below
Dylan was diagnosed with synovial sarcoma in his right wrist in 2021 resulting in an amputation of his dominant hand. He had to re-learn to draw with his left hand and faced many challenges in the three years until he died in 2024 - after his passing Dylan's mum created Scrub Foundation to raise money to support young people in their 20s facing the same struggles after diagnosis that Dyl did.
Harry had the purest soul, he had the biggest smile and always brought joy to people around him. He developed a mental health condition Schizoaffective disorder and eventually took his own life in 2024. Having struggled from mental health myself, it made sense to get in touch with MIND Bristol, and support them - a very affordable mental health charity.
Jasmine had Low-Grade Serous Ovarian Cancer which she suffered from for over a decade and sadly passed away in September. She was very passionate about spreading awareness of ovarian cancer and through this show I would like to spread more awareness about it.
All 3 of them were truly an inspiration to myself.
By hiring The Boxing Gym, the event will also support The Broadplain & Riverside Youth Project, a charity that’s been helping Bristol’s young people since the 1880s.
Why ive set up this GoFundMe
- If you cant come to the show and still want to support the cause, you can do so via this page
- If you'd like to donate more than tickets are worth as i've made the tickets affordable (due to the Xmas period and cost of living crisis etc)
So for the next month I will be doing my own version of movember - although I cant really grow any facial hair so I will be
Doing
- 100 press-ups a day (inspired by TJB & Audiomission),
- going sober,
- stop smoking / vaping
- running 5k and the last one i will run a 10k (ive never run more than 5k lol)
Challenges such as exercising, and being healthy has helped my mental health and I want to promote this onto others
I’ve had incredible help from some huge names like Good Life and Rumble in the Jungle, who are bringing their magic to transform the venue with next-level decor and production — creating an unforgettable, immersive experience, alongside some of the best talent in underground bass music - expect Jungle / Dnb / Garage / 140 / Breaks & More!
