Take the 5 Minute Home Challenge

Take the 5 Minute Home Challenge!

Show your support by taking 5 minutes of your time and donating as little as $5 to help end homelessness today!

We can't end homelessness in one day in our community, but we can end homelessness for this Thousand Oaks family with 3 young children!

It doesn't take people with a lot of money to make a difference, it just takes a lot of people with big hearts to show they care!!!
If less than 25% of this amazing community could find it in their hearts to donate as little as $5 we would be able to change this family’s life forever!

This beautiful family is reaching out to this Amazing Community to raise funds to purchase a home and end homelessness for them!

Meet the Williams Family....

A letter from Mrs. Williams,

Hello and Thank you for taking your time to show you care by listening to our story!

We are The Williams Family and we have been homeless for almost 3 years!

Our parents grew up in the Conejo Valley.
My husband and I were both born in Thousand Oaks and have known each other since kindergarten.
We graduated from local high schools and attended local colleges.
We were on the right path and living just like any other young family in Thousand Oaks - until our life became a night mare and was turned upside down!

In January 2015 my husband was bit by a very poisonous spider. We almost lost him! After weeks of being in the hospital, skin grafts, multiple surgeries and months of physical therapy he was able to return back to work. Unfortunately, the company he had been with for over 8 years was downsizing and he was in the list of layoffs.

In September 2015 we lost our home and almost all of our personal belongings. The materialistic items didn't matter, but losing things like our family photos and handmade gifts from our children really tore at our hearts.

We began by staying in local hotels and signing up with any possible charity that could help us find a new place. Unfortunately, none of the programs were able to help us... some said our family was too big to help. They did not have enough funding to help. Others said they wanted to split us up, but could not give us a stable place to stay, even if we did split up. Another denied us because I was pregnant., and so on. Once our funds ran out we had to stay in our car and when we could- with family and friends.

The 5 of us have been so blessed with having the opportunity to sleep in an 8 x 10 bedroom, but come July 1st (once school ends) this will no longer be an option for us and we will have to return back to sleeping in our car. Unfortunately, the room is located in a home with an elder that is going through chemotherapy. Having school aged children has caused severe medical concerns- as they tend to bring home viruses like the cold and flu.

The summer is quickly approaching and we fear for our children's health during the summer heat. Our daughters have sensory processing disorders that cause them to over heat quickly... this is very scary for us as it has caused them to be hospitalized in the past.

In addition to our 3 younger children we have an older daughter as well. She is graduating from high school this year. This summer she will be starting her new-found life as an adult and will not be with moving forward with us!

We have applied with places like Many Mansions and Area Housing. We have been on the wait list with Many Mansions for almost 3 years; our place on that list has not moved since applying. The application with Area Housing was denied because we have an eviction on our record with in the last five years. They stated if we are still homeless in 2021 to try and re-apply.

After years of applying for rentals for an apartment or home throughout the Ventura County- we have come to realize a rental is no longer an option for us because of the eviction. Both of us work and have a decent income, but once people see the eviction, they won't finish processing our application for the property we would like to rent.

WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN AN AMAZING OPPORTUNITY TO PURCHASE A HOME FOR ALMOST $30,000 THROUGH HUD!

We are asking for this community to help us obtain funds to purchase this home!
This house is perfect for us. It has 3 bedrooms and a little yard for our children to play in.

I know there are very caring, loving and helpful people out there ... as I have stood next to them at other funds raisers, walked with those walking for a cause, and volunteered with them at food and clothing pantries in the area.
