The Accountability Initiative

My name is Andrew Ankamah Jr., and I am the Founder & Director of an organization called The Accountability Initiative. We are an organization of young activists with the mission of advocating on behalf of underrepresented communities & seeking out solutions to issues that persist within them. We have worked with school and district officials, community organizations, and have participated in numerous protests and events.

We have done work surrounding education reform in New Jersey and anti-gun violence in Philadelphia. We were successful in helping to introduce a Black History Course for students, Microaggression training for staff members, and more serious consequences for perpetrators of discrimination in North Brunswick, NJ. In Philadelphia, we hosted several community conversations surrounding gun violence, held protests, and worked with other anti-violence organizations.

Currently, we are continuing our efforts through our two committees: Education & Gun Violence. The education committee is focusing on establishing a mentorship partnership with schools and sending college students to high schools to share their expereinces, advice, and insight to those looking to go to college. The gun violence committee is focused on spreading awareness of gun violence by amplifying community voices and bringing stories and first-hand experiences to key stakeholders.
