My beautiful and devoted friend has had her recumbent bike stolen despite the locks and gate. Having only just arrived in the DC area to start a non-profit summer internship, it was taken. This is Sarah's only mode of transport; it is her legs; it supports her livelihood.
Sarah has Cerebral Palsy which has really never stopped her. She has traveled the world, just earned her MS in Public Health at Emory, lived in other cities and all the while focused much of her energy on me and my disease, Friedreich's ataxia (FA). Sarah interned for my doctor, Dr. David Lynch at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. She has raised countless dollars for FA and for her graduation from Emory she asked people to give donations to FA. It's never about Sarah; it's always about me and others with FA whom she has come to know.
So, please won't you help us replace her Trike. She lovingly referred to her stolen Trike as Joan. We would love to give her Joan II. I have reached out to the same bike shop where she purchased Joan and he said he has another just like it for $2150.
Meanwhile if any of my fellow FA friends have stopped using a similar recumbent bike and would be interested in selling, we will look at that option too. If by some providence the trike is found on the black market, we will use any funds donated to help Sarah as she makes her way in this new city.
