On Sunday March 15, due to the risk associated with COVID-19, I made the difficult decision to indefinitely close the doors to my two restaurants: THE ELK (West Village) and Bar Beau (Williamsburg).
The staff at both locations are like family to me, and the thought of having to lay anyone off is absolutely heartbreaking.
While we look at the temporary solutions available to keep our businesses going, like to-go or delivery, the likelihood we will be able to support the 30 staff members who dedicate much of their lives to hospitality for others is near to impossible.
I am raising money to support 4 weeks of pay (at minimum wage) for these individuals and their dependent family members during this very difficult time. Should we reach our goal, we will dedicate our first day back in business to all of YOU by hosting friends & family events at both locations. Regardless if you are able to donate at this time, we want to thank you for your continued support of our small businesses. Our community is everything, and we are truly all in this together.
