Many years ago my daughter's home was raided by Garden City Police & Westland Police, ICE and Homeland Security and her (now) ex was handcuffed and taken in for questioning.  It was determined that 6,300 images of child pornography were found in locked devices. After being found guilty, he reported to Federal prison in April 2014. My daughter continues the fight to protect her children from their father, a convicted sex offender.

Since his release from prison in October 2018, my daughter and her husband have paid more than $70,000 in attorney fees to keep the children safe. For the past year, they have been paying supervisors $400 a month in addition to attorneys and most recently, June 2022, a court ordered Parenting Time Coordinator (PTC) to protect the children during the court ordered visitation with their father. PTC has cost $7,700.00 to date and this is only half because both parents are ordered to split the fees.

It seems that child predators have gained more rights in recent years, even more than a parent that has legal custody, physical custody and wants the best for her children! Now we move to a court ordered evideniary hearing to re-examine years of material and determine what more can be done to appease this sexual offender. After their attorneys put in the time to prepare for this hearing, the judge canceled it two days before it was to happen. So now she has to pay for an evidentiary hearing that didnt happen along with the continued fight to keep the children safe. Their bill as of right now is roughly $9,000.00 and the attorney is wanting it paid in full asap.

While we hate asking for help, the situation has become more than she can afford and it is bankrupting the family. There are a number of reasons this is an urgent ask and we are pleading with the court to keep the children safe.

1. My daughter ’s ex-husband is a sex offender who did time in prison until 2018 for possession of child pornography.

2. During their recent supervised visits over the past year each child has sustained a concussion under his “watch" one in June and another in November, among other smaller injuries.

3. It has been reported in court documents, “Father has a warped sense of humor and teases and taunts the children, being the hardest on the parties’ daughter, who has been engaged in intensive outpatient therapy for some time" This is where the child voices her fears about her father and visitation.

4. He has violated his parole twice in the first year of his release and while awaiting sentencing in Federal court for those violations, he violated three more times. One of these violations was possession of child erotica and my daughter was able to suspend his parenting time through Family Court for a year until his sentencing was finalized. That sentencing was more therapy, so family court just reinstated his parenting time without caring that he had violated.

My daughter and her husband are in desperate need of help with these legal fees. The initial retainer was paid, but the constant attorney fees are piling up to the tune of $9,000.00. We are asking our friends and family to help us fund this legal battle and protect the children from ever being alone with this convicted sex offender. We are terrified of what might happen if we don’t win our case and he is allowed to be alone with the children unsupervised.
