Systems impacted Youth College Fund
The Systems Impacted Youth College Fund was created to support students in stage II of the Incarceration to College Program.
Incarceration to College is a college outreach program from the Berkeley Underground Scholars Initiative for in-custody and out-of-custody youth. We provide a comprehensive program that assists justice-impacted youth from the moment of interaction all the way through their college careers. When our students get out they need help.
So here's the breakdown:
Each Student receives two case managers and attends weekly meetings to help support them in their re-entry navigation.
$1000- gets a student a new laptop and a WiFi hotspot.
$1500- gives a student a $500 stipend, gets a student a new laptop and a WiFi hotspot.
$12,200- pays a student a $500 weekly stipend for 4 months, a new phone, a month of unlimited phone service, and, a laptop.
$28,000- pays a student a $500 weekly stipend for 4 months, a new phone, a month of unlimited phone service, and, a laptop.
All donations will be split among students. Let's go!!!
Research suggests that although over 90% of juveniles want to obtain a college degree less than 10% will ever receive a college degree. Research also shows that education helps to support incarcerated to feel empowered and create sustainable lifestyles. These numbers are staggering and enlightening. As a previously incarcerated person, I recognize that something must be done to bridge the educational aspirations of justice-impacted youth to real-life attainment of college degrees.
