Imagine you have a beautiful family and a great job, and your children go to school every day, aspiring to do something great. Then imagine the amazing country you live in started to become politically unsettled, and your normal life was turned upside down. Imagine bombs dropping out of the sky, demolishing schools and houses and stores. What would you do? Would you run? Where would you go? Who’s going to help you? How far would you go to protect your family?
This is the story of the Balish family from Syria, who had no choice but to leave their house, their country, and their normal lives behind in order to survive. Dad’s name is Samir. He and his wife, Sowsan, have two daughters – Einas (14) and Alisar (18).
This is also the story of two other families – the Kirwoods, and the Crudens. My name is Josh Kirwood, and my partner in this amazing venture is Dena DiSarro.
Dena and I live in San Diego, and we want to make a positive impact on a Syrian refugee family. We believe they deserve better than what they are experiencing right now. These are normal families who lived a normal life until their country became a war zone. Now they are in a state of flux, living in poor conditions in San Diego with very little money, cramped into a tiny one bedroom apartment, in a strange culture that speaks a different language, not sure if they are ever going to get back home again.
Dena and I want to make sure that while they are here they share the same opportunity at having comfort and happiness as we do. But that can’t happen unless we gather our friends and family together to help in any way possible. The easiest way to help is to donate money to this fund. The money put into this fund will be used to provide exactly what they need in order to live a more comfortable life while the children attend school and do their best to navigate this strange, new culture.
If you have been thinking about how you can help a Syrian refugee family, but feel like it’s difficult to make that that first step or to make a big commitment, maybe this is a good avenue for you. You can have a direct impact on this wonderful family and then get some feedback on what’s happening with them.
We will take great care to provide the Balish family with their needs as they arise, but we have a list of things we know we want to provide for them as soon as possible. We have already furnished them with some very basic needs, so it’s time to see if we can pool everyone together to get them to the next level. Of course, if you have items you would like to donate, we will speak with them to see if those items are needed.
Please consider donating any amount of money to benefit the Balish Family. It will change their lives for the better, and allow them to feel a little peace in this very confusing time for them.
Your help will mean so much to us, and we will be so grateful to share your money and this experience with you. Thank you. Dena and Josh
