Hi, my wife and I own some property in Hollandale, WI. We purchased it in November of last year. The previous owner, Mr Taylor had built a beautiful memorial on the property when he owned it. The memorial is a tribute to all the people who serve. This was financed out of his own pocket. Mr. Taylor and our financial situation is very different. We bought the property with the intention to farm it. We want to instill in our two children the same work ethic we learned on our family farms growing up. We have a small 85 head beef herd and both work full time in Madison. Our work pays for our home, our kids, our debts, and our farm.
The flag pole was recently broken in a storm and many folks have brought to our attention improvements which would help to preserve this local treasure. We are creating this page as we would love to try to make necessary repairs and upgrades. It is our hope for everyone to continue to be able to visit the monument and sign Taylor’s guest book (the heart of this beautiful place hopefully not to be forgotten). Below is a list of estimated repairs for the site:
1. The 100’ tall flag pole stands on the hill with nothing on it. The rope (Halyard) is broken. This caused the flag 30’ x 50’ to fall to the ground. We need to replace the flag @ a cost of $2000. The Halyard (two of these needed) is $680. The cost to rent the lift to reach the top of the pole is $980 per day plus trucking costs.
2. The metal art is tipped over from the wind. The art needs concrete bases & welding to return to its former beauty. The landscaping needs touch up. Not to mention the regular maintenance of, mowing, snow plowing, trimming, & weeding.
Thank you to all of those who wish to donate! We appreciate your efforts to keep this a local landmark for visitors to enjoy.
