Sex Toy & Disability Research - In partnership with RMIT University!

Thank you so much for visiting! My name is Andrew Gurza , I work as a Disability Awareness Consultant shining a light on issues around sex and disability. My sister and I are working on a new venture that's very near to my heart - over the course of my work and life as a disabled man, I’ve learned that many people with physical disabilities, limited mobility or chronic illness struggle to achieve sexual pleasure by themselves.  While a few companies have started to adapt sex toys for people with disabilities, most  aren’t effective and no one has created toys with disability in mind from the beginning. We want to change that.

Our Beliefs and Mission:

We believe sexual pleasure is a fundamental part of being human – some would even say it’s a right. While able bodied people can fulfill this need quite easily on their own, this isn’t the case for many people with disabilities and limited mobility. Often incorrectly assumed to be lacking in sexual desire, people with disabilities find  their needs are rarely considered when it comes to sex toy design.

In fact, our initial research  found that over 50% of respondents believe the sex toys on the market do not meet their needs.

This presents an awkward situation of asking an aid worker to help (not exactly the best way to get in the mood), hiring a sex worker – which comes with its own set of challenges and expenses, or not finding sexual pleasure at all.

Research also showed that 96% of people with disabilities are interested in a line of sex toys created with them in mind. As our population ages and disability increases as a result, the need will rise along with it.

It’s about time someone designed sex toys for the growing but rarely considered disabled population...because everyone has a right to get off :)  

Next Steps:

As you can imagine, this isn't an easy problem to crack. So we have partnered with a research team at RMIT University in Australia which includes a global sex toy design expert, industrial design team, research team  and occupational therapist. It's the first research piece of its kind in the world and  will unlock a detailed understanding of the needs/challenges, supporting data and design recommendations needed to create the first line of sex toys that puts disabled people’s pleasure first.
