In November I am undertaking my Swim for Simon fundraiser challenge. You may be aware of the national campaign ‘Swim 10km in November’ for Cancer Research. My fundraiser is along those lines but I wanted something that would challenge me a little more, and hopefully persuade you to part with some pennies.

So I’ve decided to swim 10km each WEEK in November instead. This equates to 500 laps of my local pool every week.

I am raising money for the Give Simon Time campaign. Simon is a friend who was recently diagnosed with a glioblastoma brain tumour. Simon has a beautiful family, a wife (Stef) and 2 daughters (Ella and Nelle). Ella plays professional rugby with Harlequins, has represented England U18s in the Six Nations with a dream to play for the Red Roses one day. And with England Rugby calling her one of the rising stars of the women’s game, it’s not difficult to see that dream becoming a reality.

Glioblastoma is incurable, but there are proven treatments, additional to those Simon is currently receiving, that can extend his life. But they are not available on the NHS or in the UK. Treatments include Immunotherapy and Optune. One stimulates the body’s immune system response against cancer cells and the other helps prevent the tumour from growing or spreading so quickly.

These treatments can give Simon time. Time to spend with his family making more memories. And time for him to see Ella achieve her dream of playing for England’s Red Roses.

We lost somebody who was very dear to me last year, only months after being diagnosed with a brain tumour. Your donation will help ensure that another family won’t lose a loved one too soon.
