After the tech left the room the doctor came in and informed that they believed they saw a neural tube deffect and were advised to go to the perinatal center in Des Moines Iowa. Where it was confirmed that they're little baby boy indeed has Spina Bifida. From there they were referred to the Midwest Fetal Care Center in Minneapolis Minnesota.
Darby then underwent fetal repair surgery on December 27th 2019 in the Mother Baby wing of Abbot Northwestern hospital in Minneapolis.
They surgery consisted of cutting her on a c section level to expose the uterus where the doctors can access their son where the spina bifida is. Which is specifically referred to as myeloschisis where the his spinal cord is in place without the fluid sac; exposed to the amniotic fluid. It is a "snowflake" condition as no two cases are the same and the effects will not be known until he trys to start walking. He currently has a Chiari malformation which means his cerebellum has slid down inside the spinal column, stopping brain/spinal fluid to properly circulate. The causes fluid on the brain. They are extremely hopeful that this surgery will reduce this particular condition.
Darby was relocated to the Wasi building after the surgery. Brad has been traveling back and forth for her doctor appointments. Now that she could end up delivering earlier than the original due date in April, Brad is trying to figure out a way to stay in Minneapolis with her.
January 22nd during a weekly appointment they received the news that the baby's amniotic fluid levels have decreased. It seems the fluid has been leaking through the uterine incision. Unfortunately instead of hearing the news she could come back home to Fort Dodge Iowa, the admitted her back into the Mother Baby Unit and will stay in inpatient care unit until the baby is delivered via c section. They are desperately hoping to make it to 36 weeks and would accept 36 weeks.
As you can imagine, the bills have been accumulating drastically. This amazingly, beautiful family are in need of some help with hospital bill and making sure they have what they need when they get to bring their son home.
Any thoughts, prayers, love, donations or items off the baby registry on Amazon's baby registry; Darby Muller, would be huge and greatly appreciated help them get over this hump. Sharing this page as much as possible would help as well.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. God bless.
