This Thanksgiving season, it's our duty to give back and give thanks to the humans who ensure we have food on our table, groceries in our markets and sanity in our nation. Farmworkers work day-in and day-out, through weather changes, low wages, dangerous pesticides, back breaking work and through the whole pandemic, to ensure that this nation doesn't go hungry.

So how does this country repay them? By paying these farmworkers wages low enough that their families struggle with food insecurity at home. By calling them essential, yet not providing them with essential protective gear to properly protect them as they work. By spraying the fields they work in with pesticides, cancerous pesticides that get on their clothing which then gets in their homes and causes health issues for farmworkers and their children. By wearing out their bodies as they do back breaking work daily, all for them not to have access to health care because of their immigration status. The list goes on and on, but the fact that our families depends on these humans should be enough for us to give back where we can and share this campaign to make a difference.

It is our duty, as a nation, to protect our most vulnerable, not just for the sake of humanity, but also to ensure that these essential workers know they are appreciated and that there's a community that cares. We NEED farmworkers, we depend on farmworkers, our families and our children DEPEND ON THE LABOR OF FARM WORKERS. So we need to do our part for them.

Can you believe that the same people who put food on our tables can’t afford to feed their own families? Can you believe that the same people risking their health for our nation aren't provided with the protection they deserve? It’s the alarming truth but YOU can help make a difference in their lives.

This November we are collecting sweaters, raincoats and blankets for farmworkers, as well as amplifying our need for food for our Food Bank for Farmworkers program to be able to provide farmworkers with warmth and a Thanksgiving meal for their families. We are accepting new or gently used items, so if you have a sweater in the back of your closet that you haven't used in years, we will find it a new home! Have you noticed how farmworkers wear sweaters on the field? No matter how hot or cold it is, they do it to protect themselves from pesticides. This campaign aims to bring attention to this matter, while providing sweaters to our essential farmworkers as a thank you for their hard work.

Your donation helps us do more than just buy clothing. It ensures that farmworkers in our community work with dignity and the clothing they need to work. The funds raised will be used not only to purchase essential clothing, but also to cover the operational costs that make this program possible. That includes the logistics of organizing community distribution events, transportation, staffing, and volunteer support.

In addition, we receive generous in-kind donations, and your contribution helps us sort, store, and distribute these items responsibly and equitably to families. Putting on these events takes time, resources, and coordination, and your support helps us make sure everything runs smoothly, from the moment clothing arrives to the moment they’re placed in a farm worker's hands.

ABOUT FARMWORKERS :

Farmworkers work 10 hour days, 6 times a week, with most earning an average of $13.50 an hour with no overtime pay until after the 10th hour. Farmworkers are the lowest paid labor force in the U.S. and live in fear due to their immigration status, which prevents them from speaking up for themselves and their inhumane treatments.

Together we can make a difference, though the system fails to serve our essential working families, us coming together as a community to take care of one another is how we create the change in the world we want to see.
