Swap Berries for Batteries: Save Our Soil
Donation protected
As a 2-year-old, my love for berries started when my mom took me to pick fresh berries, and I couldn't stop popping the juicy goodness in my mouth! In elementary school, I chose an interest group in which we learned about types of batteries, how to sort and recycle them, and the importance of recycling batteries to prevent poison from leaching into the ground. I wanted to combine my love for berries with my passion for sustainability, and Berries for Batteries was born!
In the US, 37 percent of people are unaware that batteries can be recycled at all. Even among the people who know they're supposed to recycle batteries, 45 percent admit they do not because of a lack of understanding about where to dispose of them.
We solve this problem by going around our local neighborhoods offering people fresh-picked berries (or homemade jam during winter) in exchange for their used batteries. We then tape those batteries (to prevent fires) before we drop them off at our local recycling center.
Your generous donation will help us pay for the berries we pick!
