We are a nonprofit working to create solutions for sustainable development. One way we can reduce food waste by improving how food is handled after it's harvested (improving post-harvest practices is a common problem to address in our modern food system).

We are currently fundraising for a workshop that will teach participants how to process tomatoes (into tomato sauce) and rosella (into rosella jam). The workshop will cover techniques like canning, preserving, and conditioning. We are extending the life of food items and creating products with higher added value, at the same time.

The workshop aims to address the issue of food waste in a selected area of Indonesia (not far from Yogyakarta in Java), where tomatoes and other produce are sometimes used as animal feed because market price of crops at harvest occasionally falls under breakeven point, a considerable loss for farmers.

The workshop is an opportunity for anyone interested. Not only for farmers trying to turn a challenge into an opportunity by transforming their harvest into products with a higher added value. But also, for stay-at-home mothers looking for a potential home-based business they can run without significant capital investment needed. Or anyone interested in becoming a little bit more self-reliant.

Funds raised with this GoFundMe campaign will cover the cost of ingredients, equipment, venue and educational materials.
