Hi everyone,
We’re fundraising for Susie!
Since our mom’s passing, Shannon & I have taken on sole responsibility for taking care of our grandmother, Susie Martinez.
As most of you know, Susie’s dementia has progressed significantly over the years, and Shannon, my mom, and myself at that time had done everything we could to support and take care of her at home.
She finally got to the point where she needed to be put into a skilled nursing and memory care facility, of which she has received the best 24 hour support and care. They absolutely love her there, which is not surprising because what’s not to adore and love about her!
If you’ve ever had a hug from Sus and heard words of affirmations be spoken upon you, you’ll know exactly what we’re talking about.
Resiliency runs deep in the family and her positive energy and strength are clearly her super power. She has exceeded the expected timeline the doctors gave us with her cancer diagnosis back in 2021. This woman has stage 5 pancreatic cancer, but you would never know it! It’s also a testament to the power of the mind and where our energy and focus go.
The strength that my mom and Susie have showed Shannon and I really set a foundation for who we want to be and how we want to show up for our loved ones.
With that being said, unfortunately the funds our mom had set aside for Susie for this specific reason have run out. Full transparency, we have racked up quite a debt to the current facility she is in. But even though we are financially strapped, we are not taking it for granted that she is still here with us! We’re doing everything we can.
In the meantime, the facility have graciously let Susie stay while we try and find all means necessary to get financial support & aid. We have spent the last year and a half trying to get her into various government programs and resources; all of which she has continuously been waitlisted or denied. The system, though in theory, is setup for making things more accessible when needed, have been proven to be extremely difficult and disheartening.
Shannon and I work full time while simultaneously scrambling to try and support our grandma. We’re hoping to raise money to pay off some of the debt while we are in the process of finding other options to maintain the support and care she needs.
Please know there is absolutely no pressure, even if you share and pass this around.
