Our iconic Coastal Maine Barn, located in Surry, has operated as a beloved community resource since 1965 when Walter Nowick, a gifted, Julliard-trained pianist, conductor, and vocalist, began giving concerts here with young Japanese professionals and students. Each year, we strive to honor his legacy with performances that inspire and spark joy.
Our mission statement reads: “A performing arts and community center on the coast of Maine that enhances rural access to the arts and promotes international exchange and cultural diversity."
The Barn has been a place of magic, with its fine acoustics, a Steinway Grand Piano and an intimate atmosphere. As we plan our 2023 season with your generous support we look forward to another wonderful year.
Recent years have been challenging for us all, as musicians, performance venues, our state, our society and the world at large has been disrupted and challenged by unpredictable events and setbacks. We are all trying to find balance and adjust to new circumstances and realities. Though Covid-19 and its variants have impacted venues and musicians of all stripes everywhere, we are pleased that we were able to continue to offer enriching programs for our audience and supporters.
To maintain and expand our level of programming, your support in the following is greatly appreciated and will continue to make a vital difference :
• Ongoing maintenance of the 1940 Steinway grand piano ($3000 - $6,000)
• Performers’ fees ($12,000 - $15,000)
• Programs and posters ($600)
• Website and IT assistance ($1,000)
• Marketing & Advertising ($2000 - $4000)
• Electric and plumbing upgrades ($3,600)
• Parking and landscaping upkeep of the Barn entryway ($3,000)
• Maintenance, safety and accessibility upgrades of our old barn ($9,000)
Your donation, large or small, will be used to provide the best possible cultural offerings for the residents of Surry, the surrounding communities, and guests from near and far. With your generosity, we strive to come back from these challenging times stronger and better than ever!
